Traditional sugar cookie recipe, great for making Christmas cookies. I found this recipe in an old edition of Taste of Home.
Christmas Sugar Cookies
8 dozen
Ingredients:
1 cup butter (no substitutes), softened
2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup sour cream
2 tsps. vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. ground mace
1/8 tsp. salt
Frosting
Directions:
1. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar.
2. Beat in egg, sour cream, honey and vanilla.
3. Combine the dry ingredients; gradually add to the creamed mixture.
4. Cover and chill for 2 hours or until easy to handle.
5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/8 inch thickness.
6. Cut with 3-inch cookie cutters dipped in flour.
7. Place 1-inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheets.
8. Bake at 325 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned.
9. Frost cookies after removing to wire racks to cool.
