Recipe for Italian Meatball Subs

These homemade meatball subs are great. Everyone will think that you went to a lot of trouble, but they are very easy to heat in the slow cooker. I like the serve them on toasted Italian rolls.

Italian Meatball Subs
6-7 servings

Ingredients:
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
2 tblsps. grated Parmesan cheese
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/8 tsp. garlic powder
1 pound ground beef
1/2 bulk Italian sausage

Sauce:
1 can (15 ozs.) tomato sauce
1 can (6 ozs.) tomato paste
1 small onion, chopped
1/2 cup red wine or beef broth
1/3 cup water
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. pepper
6-7 Italian rolls, split

Directions:
1. In a bowl, combine the eggs and milk; add bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper and garlic powder.
2. Add beef and sausage; mix well.
3. Shape into 1-inch balls.
4. Broil 4-inches from the heat for 4 minutes; turn and broil 3 minutes longer.
5. Transfer to a slow cooker.
6. Combine the tomato sauce and paste, onion, wine or broth, water, and seasonings; pour over meatballs.
7. Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours.
8. Serve on rolls.
